About me
I’m a composer, lyricist and musical director. I write songs, musicals, works for choir and the concert hall, and I also teach music and lyrics at BML in London. I’m a member of Mercury Musical Developments, and I run Upbeat Choir in East London. My awards include the Vivian Ellis Prize for Best Musical 1990, and the Stiles and Drewe Best Song Award 2011. I was shortlisted for a 2011 British Composer Award in the Making Music category, and Cycle Song, a community opera written with Barnsley poet Ian McMillan, won a Royal Philharmonic Society Award in 2013. From 2014-15 I was the musical director of Memphis the Musical at the Shaftesbury Theatre. I’m currently Musical Supervisor on Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom at the National Theatre.
