About me

    Tim Sutton

I’m a composer, lyricist and musical director. I write music for theatre and radio, and I also teach music and lyrics at BML in London. I’m a member of Mercury Musical Developments, and I run Upbeat Choir in Harpenden. My awards include the Vivian Ellis Prize for Best Musical 1990, and the Stiles and Drewe Best Song Award 2011. I was shortlisted for a 2011 British Composer Award in the Making Music category, and Cycle Song, a community opera written with Barnsley poet Ian McMillan, won a Royal Philharmonic Society Award in 2013.

I write songs for BBC Radio, including Alexei Sayle’s Sandwich Bar, Paul Sinha’s Ultimate Pub Quiz, Mother Courage and Her Children and The Now Show.

I was the Musical Director of Memphis the Musical at the Shaftesbury Theatre. I’m currently writing To the Streets with Roy Williams, and Restless Natives, which will tour from 2024.
